Supertanker in Helsinki

Supertanker was invited to Helsinki to take part in the “Self organised housing” workshop – Aalto University. Click here to see the presentation. The same presentation was shown at the conference “Alternative Urbanisms” – organised by Urban Geography Research group – UCL – University College London.

Spatial Agency

Supertanker has become part of of the database of the ongoing research project, Spatial Agency.

A couple of quotes from the website:

Spatial Agency is an ongoing research project that aims to shift the of focus of architectural discourse from one that is centred around the design (= building) and making (= technology) of buildings to one where architecture is understood as a situated and embedded praxis conscious of and working with its social, economic and political context.

In the spirit of Cedric Price the project started with the belief that a building is not necessarily the best solution to an architectural problem. Architecture, and it is easy to forget this, is about a lot more than just objects in space.

Cool Cash and Creativity

In 2005 Supertanker made this short documentary for our conference on ‘Kroner og kreativitet’ (‘Cool Cash and Creativity’). Based on interviews with Richard Florida, planners and architects as well as entrepreneurs, activists and other kinds of truffle pigs in the Netherlands, it shows how the buzzword of ‘creativity’ has been integrated on different levels within urban redevelopment – with the undertow of a critical and vital urbanity ever present between the lines!

The video was made in collaboration with the glorious euphemizers of Wonderful Copenhagen. Thanks to Jane for local research and the attick, and to Ane for great companionship.

Supertanker on Lefebvre and vague spaces

The urban dilemma in a glass of beer (copyright: Turbinen Bräu)

What is the link between half a glass of the swiss Turbinen Bräu, Henri Lefebvre’s concept of diverted space and the contemporary fuzz about temporary, creative spaces? As part of research projects at Roskilde University and Technical University of Denmark, Supertanker unfolded their thoughts on the potentials and perils of urban vague spaces at the conference ‘Beyond Lefebvre‘ at ETH in Zürich on the French urban philosopher.

The common denominators between the discourse on creative cities and the critique of neoliberal urbanisation was discussed with the anglo-belgian ‘prophessor’ of urban politics Eric Swyngedouw and the finnish professor of ‘weak places’ and architecture, Panu Lehtovuori, among others. One important conclusion is that while the perils are staring us in the face, we have only scratched the surface of the urban potentials of vague spaces.

Supertanker in Aalborg

Aalborg University held a conference, Architecture and stages of the experience city, in the beginning of september. The presentation of Supertanker was about architecture (abstraction), Terrain Vague, Urbanity and Porosity. See the minimalistic and iconoclastic presentation here

Or you can read the paper related to the presentation, but a bit different here

We all make the Economy, Stupid!

Hvis turen går til Bruxelles omkring 1. maj så er Micronomics Festival et must.

City Mine(d) wonders whether the standards to measure the economy – growth, productivity, unemployment, consumer price, home sales – really give a right image of the wide variety of activities within the community. Læs mere

Vage urbaniteter – hinsides den kreative by

Resultaterne fra projektet bliver uploadet løbende her

Jeg faldt over dette site da jeg sad og skulle finde et citat af Saskia Sassen.

Et interessant website. Jeg faldt også over denne artikel af Doina Petrescu

Supertanker – In search of urbanity

Kan en Supertanker bruges til at søge efter urbanitet?

Artiklen i den engelske magasin ARQ – Architectual Research Quarterly fra 2008 prøver at give et svar.
